Shield Volcano | Types of Volcano

Mauna Loa, one of five volcanoes that form the Island of Hawaii in the U.S. state of Hawaiʻi in the Pacific Ocean.
It is also the greatest example of one type of volcano called shield volcano.
Shield volcanoes are very broad and gently sloping volcanoes forming a shield-like figure.
They are generally fueled by basaltic magma that has low silica content, making it flow to wide distance over the surface of volcano.
